Work Experience and Ceramic Expertise
Studio Potter - Founded David Harris Pottery 1978
Full-time studio potter, producing both functional and decorative art pottery.
Proficient at throwing, hand building, pressed, and extruded clay construction.
Extensive knowledge of clay and glaze formulation: maintaining a database of more than 2000 tested glazes
Thorough understanding of a wide variety of glaze and slip application techniques
Designed and constructed several kilns for both business and professional use including: 120 cubic foot; high fire down draft kiln, three 40 cubic foot; fast fire wood kilns, 100 cubic foot; wood fired salt kiln, various raku kilns; including natural gas, diesel, and wood fired.
Consulted and assisted in the construction and modification of various wood fired, salt, raku, gas, and electric kilns.
Comprehensive knowledge of firing techniques concerning, cone 10-12 reduction, cone 5 oxidation, raku, wood fired salt, saggar, and pit firing.
Responsible for all aspects of operating a studio including repair and maintenance of pottery equipment, inventory and purchase of clay and glaze materials, advertising, sale, and distribution.

Council of Chairpersons Award, MWSU Liberal Arts and Sciences, August 12, 2012. With the assistance of advanced ceramic students an aging kiln was dismantled and rebuilt saving the university and department considerable funds over the cost of a new kiln.
Walter Cronkite Memorial
December 12, 2012, At the request of MWSU President Robert A. Vartabedian, Eric Fuson and I began the initial brainstorming, rough sketches, and preliminary designs for the Cronkite Project.
December 19, 2012, we presented preliminary designs and models over luncheon with Kay Cronkite Barnes, Michael Meierhoffer, Robert Vartabedian, Laurel Vartabedian, Karen Graves, and others.
January 1, 2013 - November 4, 2013. I was primarily responsible for the artistic conception and design work on four major pieces of the project - the Cronkite Memorial Sculpture Wall, Cronkite Timeline Wall, Cronkite – Saint Joseph Chamber of Commerce Piece, and the “Betsy” Cronkite Piece.
The Walter Cronkite Memorial was dedicated November 4, 2013. The Memorial received the 2014 Governor's Spotlight Award for Tourism.

Small Favors 2020: Expanding the Field - The Clay Studio, 137-139 North Second Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this was the 15th anniversary edition of Small Favors. I submitted three works to the exhibition and had all three selected to be part of the exhibit. The works were titled Wood Fired House, Salt Shot, and Sleeping Nest. March 6 - August 17, 2020
International Cone Box Show 2020/2021 – Bracker’s Good Earth Clays, 1831 E 1450 Rd • Lawrence, Kansas March 23, 2020 – March 23, 2021: Two works were selected for the exhibition titled Above the Muck and Floating in a Brick House. Was to be exhibited at NCECA 2020 in Richmond, Virginia, March 28, 2020 but due to Covid-19 cancellations artwork was held by the gallery in an attempt to show it at the NCECA conference 2021, however, when those plans also did not come to fruition the exhibition was placed online. https://theconeboxshow.com/.
